17 March 2016, Nepal; The Thirty-Seventh Session of the Council of Ministers of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was held today. The delegation of Maldives was led by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Dunya Maumoon.
The Council deliberated on issues of regional importance and considered matters on areas of cooperation in SAARC. The Ministers also reviewed the progress in the implementation of decisions taken at the Thirty-sixth Session of the Council and the 18th SAARC Summit that was held in Nepal in November 2014. While addressing the Council, Foreign Minister Dunya stressed that greater trade and economic investment between Member States was the key to address the primary goal of SAARC which is to alleviate poverty. She also added that the region is prone to the scourge of terrorism and called all members to collaborate in combating terrorism and violent extremism.
