The Forty-Second Session of the Standing Committee begins in Nepal

16 March 2016, Nepal; The 42nd Session of the Standing Committee of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was held today. The delegation of Maldives was led by Foreign Secretary H.E. Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed.

During the Session, Secretary General of SAARC presented his Analytical Report to the committee. Foreign Secretary, Dr. Ali Naseer, in his remarks highlighted the importance of moving ahead with greater speed and effectiveness in the efforts to implement directives from the SAARC Summit. He highlighted that poverty alleviation is the overall objective of the SAARC Charter and that trade is what will transform poverty into prosperity.

The Foreign Secretaries considered a wide range of issues on regional cooperation during the meeting. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs will meet tomorrow for the Thirty Seventh Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers.
