24 September 2015, Male’; The HRC Plenary Session to consider and adopt the outcome of the Maldives UPR will be held this afternoon in Geneva, during the ongoing 30th Session of the Human Rights Council.
The Maldives received 258 recommendations from 102 countries and accepted 131 during the second cycle of UPR review held in May this year. Based on the Constitution of the Maldives the Government rejected 49 recommendations and left 78 pending. From the 78 pending recommendation the Maldives now accepts 67 and rejects 11 recommendations
The Maldives’ delegation to the session will be headed by Foreign Secretary H.E. Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed. Foreign Secretary will present to the Council the decisions of the Government on pending 78 recommendations.
Foreign Secretary will be joined by the Minister at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations Offices at Geneva, Mrs. Geela Ali and staff at the Mission.
