The Maldives reiterates its calls on all parties to the Syrian conflict to immediately cease all hostilities

21 September 2015, Geneva; The Maldives today, reiterated its call on all parties to the conflict in Syria to immediately cease all hostilities. At the statement delivered today, during the Interactive Dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, the  Maldives condemned in the strongest terms all the violations of human rights and humanitarian law, regardless of their perpetrators and stated that international community should bear responsibility for the innocent lives lost in the Syrian war.

 In the statement, the Maldives also noted that it is appalled from the distinct impact of this war on civilians and especially women and children. The Maldives further renewed its call on Syrian authorities to grant immediate, and full access to the members of the Commission to carry out their investigation. In consideration to the extent of the human rights violation, the Maldives reiterated the call to refer the situation of Syria to the International Criminal Court. The Maldives also called on States receiving Syrian and other refugees to ensure humanitarian assistance, and provide legal venues for their safety.

 The Maldives has always supported the resolutions at the Human Rights Council in support of the people of the Syrian Arab Republic. The Maldives is represented at the session by the staff at the Maldives Mission in Geneva.
