The Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Dunya Maumoon convened the first meeting of the newly reconstituted UPR Standing Committee today.
At the meeting held this morning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Dunya welcomed all the members of the Standing committee and expressed hope to receive their full support and cooperation in implementing the recommendations the Maldives accepted during its second cycle review held in May 2015. Discussions also ensued on a way forward in implementing the recommendations and also identifying a result oriented approach in measuring the progress.
The newly constituted Standing Committee consists of representatives from the Presidentâ€™s Office, Attorney Generalâ€™s Office, Ministry of Home Affairs. Ministry of Education, Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Ministry of Law and Gender, Ministry of Health. Civil Society Members includes from the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, Transparency Maldives, Maldivian Democracy Network, Advocating the Rights of Children, Society for Health Education and Hope for Women.
Todayâ€™s standing committee meeting was chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The meeting was also attended by Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Additional Secretary Mr. Ibrahim Shaheeb, Director General, Khadeeja Najeeha, Director for Legal Affairs Mr. Zaaid Ahmed and Assistant Director, Moomina Ibrahim.
