The Maldives recommends Croatia to reinforce efforts to protect children, and ensure adequate healthcare facilities

12 May 2015, Geneva, Switzerland;The Maldives has recommended to Croatia to reinforce its efforts to protect children, especially those in marginalized and disadvantaged situations, and to take steps to ensure adequate support and access to healthcare facilities by those in rural areas.

The recommendations were made at the Review of Croatia, at the 22nd Session of the Working Group, currently being held in Geneva, Switzerland.

In the statement, the Maldives welcomed the entry into force of the Act on the Ombudsman in 2011 and the amendment to the Social Welfare Act of 2014, as well as the newly adopted Family Act in 2014. The Maldives expressed support to Croatia’s National Committee for Education on Human Rights and Democratic Citizenship and appreciated the efforts to provide inclusive education for children with disabilities.

The Maldives further encouraged the Government of Croatia to put in place the appropriate mechanisms to ensure the sufficient coordination between different government bodies dealing with the welfare of children.
