Foreign Minister and Ambassador of Japan sign Exchange of Notes for Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting Network Development Project in Maldives of grant aid MVR 415 million

27 October 2016, Male'; The Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of Japan, with a view to further extending economic cooperation between the two countries, signed an Exchange of Notes today at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim, Minister of Foreign Affairs and His Excellency Mr. Kazumi Endo, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Maldives, signed the Exchange of Notes on behalf of the two respective countries.

Under the terms of the Exchange of Notes the Government of Japan shall extend to the Government of Maldives, a grant of two billion seven hundred and ninety two million Japanese Yen (¥2,792,000,000) (approximately 415 million Maldivian Rufiyaa). The grant will be utilized to implement the project for the Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting Network Development. The objective of this project is to improve access to information of the national broadcasting through development of a digital terrestrial television broadcasting network. The project includes procurement, installation and construction of digital terrestrial television transmitting system, antenna tower/pole with provision of essential equipment for network operation center system.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by senior officials from Public Service Media, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Treasury, Communication Authority of Maldives and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and officials of the Embassy of Japan in the Maldives.
