15 October 2016, Male'; Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Dr. Mohamed Asim has departed for Uzbekistan to attend the 43rd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) scheduled to take place in Tashkent from 18 – 19 October 2016.
The theme of this years session is “Education and Enlightenment - Path to Peace and Creativity”. The 43rd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers will also review the situation in Palestine and conflicts in the Muslim world, peace and security issues together with terrorism and Islamophobia. Minister Dr Asim is set to deliver a statement at the Council of Foreign Ministers.
The Maldives delegation to the Session is headed by Minister Dr Asim and accompanied by Additional Secretary Mr. Ibrahim Shaheeb, Desk Officer Ms. Aishath Fareena and Desk Officer Ms. Mariyam Suha.
The Maldives became a member of the OIC on 26 July 1976. Since joining the OIC, Maldives has participated in all regular Summits and the Foreign Ministers Meetings.
