UN Senior Advisor departs from the Maldives after completing a four day visit to facilitate the Political Party Talks

21 July 2016, Male'; Mr. Tamrat Samuel, Senior Advisor in the Department of Political Affairs of the United Nations, departed from the Maldives this evening after the completion of a four day follow up visit to facilitate the Political Party Talks. During his visit, Mr. Samuel met with President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, senior government officials, political party representatives and civil society representatives.
The government of the Maldives fully supports and thanks the United Nations efforts in facilitating the Political Party Talks. Mr Tamrat’s visit is a follow-up to his previous visit to the Maldives in April this year. The government echoes the sentiments expressed by Mr Tamrat in urging all concerned Maldivian parties to show maximum flexibility and commitment to compromise in order to overcome outstanding differences and address vital matters of national importance.
