President sends message of sympathy to the President of Turkey

29 June 2016, Male'; President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of sympathy to the President of Turkey, His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, following the attacks on the Istanbul Ataturk Airport.

The President’s message reads as follows:

“It was with shock and outrage that I learned of the attacks on the Istanbul Ataturk Airport, causing the loss of innocent lives and injuring many. The Government and people of the Maldives join me in condemning the attacks in the strongest terms, and we express our solidarity with the Government of Turkey during this challenging time.”

“The heinous terrorist attack on the Istanbul Airport yet again highlights on the need for countries to work together to defeat terrorism. The Maldives stands firm in our commitment to supporting shared human values, and will continue to work closely with Turkey and the other members of the international community in eliminating the scourge of terrorism.”

“During this time of national grief, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies and full support to the Government and the people of Turkey. Please also convey our sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families.”
