24 May 2016, Istanbul; The First World Humanitarian Summit organised by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in coordination with the Government of Turkey has concluded in Istanbul, today.
The Maldives delegation to the Summit was headed by Attorney General Uz Mohamed Anil, accompanied by Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN Offices in Geneva Dr. Hala Hameed, Counsellor at Permanent Mission of Maldives to the UN Ms. Mariyam Midhfa Naeem, Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ms. Moomina Ibrahim, and Desk Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ismail Niyaz.
Attorney General delivered a statement at the Plenary on national commitments. The Maldives delegation also the participated in three High-Level Leaders’ Roundtables; “Women and Girls: Catalyzing Action to Achieve Gender Equality”, “Natural Disasters and Climate Change; Managing Risks and Crises Differently” and “Changing People’s Lives: From Delivering Aid to Ending Need and took part in a number of side events.
The First World Humanitarian summit is an initiative to bring together the humanitarian community with other actors from the development, peace-building and peacekeeping spheres to work toward a coherent approach in the way humanitarian aid is delivered. Heads of State and Government, and representatives of civil society, the private sector, crisis-affected communities and multilateral organisations attended the Summit.
