4 May 2016; Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms Dunya Maumoon has said that the “Government is implementing the necessary reforms to cultivate a culture of democracy in the society”. Minister Dunya said this today while addressing foreign diplomats based in Colombo that are accredited to the Maldives.
Minister Dunya briefed the diplomats on the progress the Government has made in the political dialogue and stated “that Government always given priority to dialogue between the political parties whenever noticeable differences emerge on issues of national importance and is encouraged to see progress in dialogue process”.
Minister Dunya noted that the democratisation process in the Maldives is a work in progress and that the Government is working with its international partners, including the Commonwealth, the UN, and the EU in seeking technical assistance for implementing the National Governance Reform Plan.
Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr Mohamed Shainee briefed the diplomats on recent developments in the Maldives and informed that the Government is pleased by the progress made in the political party dialogue.
