Acting High Commissioner Joins World Leaders at Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict

12 June 2014, London, UK; Acting High Commissioner Ahmed Shiaan has today attended Ministers’ Day at the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict, hosted by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London.

The Global Summit, co-chaired by British Foreign Secretary, the Rt Hon William Hague MP, and Angelina Jolie, Special Envoy for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, is the largest gathering ever brought together on the topic. Representatives from 123 countries; international organisations such as the UN, Commonwealth and the EU; and civil society organisations were all in attendance. The Summit is being held with a view to creating the irreversible momentum that will generate practical action to combat sexual violence in conflicts around the world.

The Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict commenced on 10 June 2014, and Mr Shiaan is also due to attend the closing session tomorrow.
