Dr. Jennifer Drife and Jonathan Dewhurst arrived in the Maldives on 2nd December 2009 to volunteer in the Maldives for 3 months as part of the International Volunteer Programme (IVP) in conjunction with the London Deanery. The partnership was initiated following a meeting between the High Commissioner Dr. Faizal and the London Dean Director Professor Paice in May 2009.
Specialized in drug psychiatry, the volunteers will assist and train the staff in existing drug rehabilitation facilities in order to enhance the care to drug patients. The Maldives will benefit from top expertise from the UK, hopefully resulting in a long-term partnership programme between the Maldivian Health Service and the London Deanery.
