PROOF OF FUNDS

Your money must be held in cash. Shares, bonds, pension funds or similar savings accounts will not be accepted.

It must be shown that you have held the money for at least 28 days. The end of that 28 day period must not be more than one month before the date of your application.

Personal bank or building society statements are valid proof of funds for up to a month after the date of the closing balance. They are not valid for longer. New bank statements may be required if a visa application is resubmitted.

Personal bank or building society statements covering the 28 day period ending no more than one month before the date of your application

Your personal bank or building society statements should show:

1.  your name; or 

2.  the name of a child's parent(s) or legal guardian(s) if applicable (if applying as child student); and

3.  the account number; and

4.  the date of the statement; and

5.  the financial institution's name and logo; and

6.  the amount of money available.

Letter from bank confirming funds covering the 28 day period ending no more than one month before the date of your application

Your letter from a bank or building society should show:

1.  your name; or

2.  the name of a child's parent(s) or legal guardian(s) if applicable (if applying as child student); and

3.  the account number; and

4.  the date of the letter; and

5.  the financial institution's name and logo; and

6.  the money in your account; and

7.  that there is enough money in the account (to cover your course fees and living costs

Letter of official financial sponsorship or government sponsor

Financial sponsorship means you are given money to cover your course fees and living costs. If your financial sponsor is only covering some of your course fees or living costs, you must show that you have the rest of the money needed. 

You should provide a letter of confirmation from your official financial sponsor. This may be Her Majesty's government, your home government, the British Council or any international organization, company or university.

The letter must be on official letter-headed paper or stationery of the organization of the official financial sponsor and have the official stamp of that organization on it.

The letter should show:

·   your  name;

·   the name and contact details of your official financial sponsor; 

·   the date of the letter; 

·   the length  of your sponsorship; and

·   the amount of money you have or a statement that your official financial sponsor will  cover all of your fees and living costs.

If you have official sponsorship that only covers part of your money needed, you must provide a letter which shows:

·    your  name;

·    the name and contact details of your official financial sponsor; 

·    the date of the letter; 

·    the length  of your sponsorship; and

·    the amount of the money they will give you; and

·    proof that you have the rest of the money needed.

If you are receiving official financial sponsorship from your approved education provider (for example, a scholarship), the approved education provider may choose to include details of the financial sponsorship on the visa letter.
