High Commission of the Republic of Maldives in the United Kingdom. The High Commission of Maldives was established in London on 27 October 1995 by upgrading the Maldives Government Trade Representative's Office in London to a fully fledged diplomatic mission. The High Commission was officially opened by H.E. Mr. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, President of the Republic of Maldives. H.E. Mr. Ahmed Zaki was the first Maldivian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. He presented his Letter of Credence to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 20 March 1996. The post of had been vacant since High Commissioner Zaki passed away on 15 November 1996. On 22 February 2005, H.E. Mr. Hassan Sobir, High Commissioner of Maldives to the United Kingdom presented his Letter of Credence to Her Majesty the Queen . He left the United Kingdom upon completion of his tenure of office on 26 September 2007. High Commissioner Dr. Mohamed Asim presented his Letter of Credence to Her Majesty the Queen on 5 March 2008. He relinquished his mission in the UK and departed London on 25 December 2008. The current High Commissioner, Her Excellency Dr. Farahanaz Faizal, arrived in London and officially assumed duties as the new High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on 25 March 2009. High Commissioner Dr. Faizal presented her Letter of Credence to Her Majesty the Queen on 13 May 2009.
